New Mitsubishi Crossover Could Debut in Geneva

It’s no mystery why Mitsubishi has turned their sights to the SUV and crossover segment for the future of their brand. Following the wild success of the Outlander and Outlander Sport, the company announced plans to strengthen their crossover lineup with a plug-in hybrid option and other new nameplates that had, up until now, remained shrouded in secrecy. However, word says that we could be expecting a new Mitsubishi crossover to show up at the upcoming auto show in Geneva.

The auto show isn’t until March, but we already know a few things about this new crossover: it’s coming to dealerships next spring in 2018, will slot in between the Outlander and Outlander Sport (which are growing and shrinking in upcoming years, respectively, to fit into more concrete segments), and will have a brand-new turbocharged engine under the hood that Mitsubishi claims will pack a bit more punch than the brand’s current powertrain offerings.

Experts in the industry suspect the new Mitsubishi crossover will take some design cues from vehicles such as the eX Concept and Grand Tourer, two concepts that Mitsubishi designer Kazuo Yano stated would inspire future directions for the brand’s lineup. Until March, however, we won’t see exactly how that design philosophy will be implemented for a mass-market vehicle.
