Next Mitsubishi Hybrid Likely to be a Crossover

Next Mitsubishi Hybrid Likely to be a Crossover | Heritage Mitsubishi | Morrow, GAMitsubishi has been rearranging its lineup over the past few years. Following the success of the Outlander and Outlander Sport, many new nameplates are coming out in the form of CUVs. However, Mitsubishi has been toying with another segment behind the scenes in their concept cars and auto shows — plug-in hybrids and electric cars. The Outlander PHEV is the first to make its way to the global market, and the next Mitsubishi hybrid is most likely going to be another crossover, arriving sometime around 2020.

The Outlander PHEV took some time to get to North America; Mitsubishi reps say that’s because they wanted to perfect the vehicle before bringing it to a new market. From now on, new plug-in hybrids and other electrified nameplates will come to the U.S. faster. Some concepts that have appeared at auto shows include the all-electric eX in 2015, 2016’s all-terrain GT-PHEV concept, and the E-VOLUTION model from the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show with a performance-focused, coupe-like design.

The next Mitsubishi hybrid will probably also go the PHEV route, as the alliance between Mitsubishi, Renault, and Nissan insinuates that Nissan and Renault will be pursuing all-electric tech while Mitsubishi delves into other markets. Keep your eyes open for more information on a Mitsubishi plug-in crossover sometime in the next two years.
