Driving Tips for Safety
Fall means that the school year is in full swing, and drivers will be sharing the road with school buses, children crossing the road at intersections, and parents carpooling neighborhood kids. It’s important to follow these crucial back-to-school driving tips to preserve the safety of everyone involved and make sure that our students get to class easily and safely. Here are four essential tips for driving during the school year.
There is a reason why there are mandated school speed limits. That’s because slowing down can mean life or death in the event of a collision with a child. Slowing down also gives you more time to slow down if someone runs out into the middle of the street or if an accident occurs.
Be cautious during drop-off and pick-up times
When school is about to start or end are the two most perilous times for traffic around schools. Remember to drive defensively and don’t allow yourself to be distracted around these times.
Be mindful of school buses
Never pass a stopped bus, and remember to leave several car lengths between a school bus and your front bumper.
Watch for bikes and pedestrians
Children may be walking or riding bikes to school, so watch out for sidewalks and bike lanes.
Keeping these back-to-school driving tips in mind during the school year will help keep you and children safe during the fall months!
